Specific Outcomes

Other Outcomes

  • We are developing a "dry composting" technology that returns kitchen waste to the soil without the use of water. Emphasizes natural processes, no external energy or chemicals, no odor, readily available materials, and a simple method to dispose of kitchen waste.(Oyama, S.)
  • We receive donations of organic waste from hotels in Kyoto City and create dry composting food waste treatment and soil conditioners.(Oyama, S., Shioya, A., Nakade, M.)
  • We are promoting the ability to process organic waste by dry composting and making compost with the donation of 9 species of animal feces from the Kyoto City Zoo.(Oyama, S., Shioya, A., Nakade, M.)
  • Based on an agreement between RIHN and the Kyoto Prefectural Board of Education, the fifth grade students (53 students in 3 classes) of Ide Elementary School and Taga Elementary School in the town of Ide continue to take classes entitled "Growing vegetables from organic waste - toward a recycling-based society" every Monday as part of their integrated learning (inquiry) period.(Shioya, A., Oyama, S., November 6 - December 18, 2023)
  • To clarify the relationship between the Chubu Electric Power Company's Hamaoka Nuclear Power Plant, currently located in Omaezaki City (formerly, Hamaoka Town), Shizuoka Prefecture, and the local community association, from 1967, when the Mayor of Hamaoka Town was informed by Chubu Electric Power Company of its intention to build a nuclear power plant, to 2020, when the "Local News", a newspaper based in Kakegawa City, brings down the curtain, I will obtain details of the town's response to the nuclear power plant (Chubu Electric Power Company), the reaction of the townspeople, and the claims of the anti-nuclear power movement. Based on the issues extracted from the analysis of the data, research is being conducted, including interviews and a literature survey.(Tsuchiya. Y.)
  • From August to September 2023, I collected information and conducted field observations and interviews in northern and southern Ghana regarding the use of plant biomass, domestic waste, excreta, and other materials. By doing so, I was able to grasp the agricultural innovations that people in Ghana are making themselves and the current status of organic matter circulation (Plan 1-1. Contribution to Material Circulation in the Agro-Ecosystem). This is expected to provide important basic information for determining whether or not to put urban waste into agricultural lands, which is planned in future projects.(Ushiku, H.)
  • Using the British Online Archives, I have read the "Annual Reports on Foreign Trade, etc." of the British Gold Coast (now Ghana) for about 50 years, and have completed entering figures for the export volumes of agricultural products, timber, ores, etc. from 1900 to 1956. These export volumes are indicative of the progress of economic development within the British Gold Coast and can be roughly correlated with activities to clear forests and expand cultivated land. Thus, using economic history as a reference axis, I have obtained a basis for understanding the changes in vegetation in Ghana during the 20th century.(Nakao, S.)
  • Completed the technical training course for operating vehicle-based construction equipment of Komatsu (for leveling, transporting, loading and excavating) (e.g., shovelers and wheel loaders over 3 tons) and obtained a license for driving and operating the equipment (date of issuance: October 29, 2023).(Oyama, S.)
