We rented a field in Ichihara, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto, to apply zoo compost and to evaluate the effects of composting by cultivating the field. We planted peppers, eggplants, and yam. The sun was beaming and we were sweating.

On Sunday, 12th May, Shuichi Oyama (PI) and Utako Aoike jointly gave an oral presentation jointly at the 35th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association for Arid Land Studies held at Bunkyo University. This was based on collaborative work by Shuichi Oyama, Utako Aoike, and Ibrahim Mamane. The title of the presentation was ‘De-plasticization Policy and BOP Business in Niger’.

The presenters of the day were: Kentaro Noda, whose presentation title was ‘Current interests -Social experiments with composting and visualization of microorganisms’, and Georgina Seera whose presentation title was ‘Current knowledge in Uganda and consideration of the research plan’.

On Sunday, 14th April, Shuichi Oyama, PI, was hosted on “World Connection”, a section of a broadcast on J-Wave Radio’s program “ACROSS THE SKY”, presented by Moena Neuhaus. He introduced the urban cleaning and greening initiatives in Niger, and the activities of the ‘Organic Material Circulation Project’.

The second study session was held on Friday, 12th April. Akiyo Shioya presented the ‘Uganda fieldwork report: February 2024’, and Utako Aoike introduced the trends observed in research papers that have ‘food waste’ and ‘composting’ as keywords.
